The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team followed up their dominant 8-1 victory over Carroll on Tuesday with another home win on Thursday, September 5th, beating the Frederick Community College Cougars 2-0.
The two squads entered the contest with identical records at 2-1, each looking for their first back-back-back wins of the season. Freshman Zico Tesheira scored first with his 8th goal of the season in the 8th minute, sending a perfectly lofted free kick over the Cougars keeper to put the Owls in control. Prince George's controlled the tempo for a majority of the remainder of the first half, firing off 9 shots compared to 4 for Frederick.
Teams traded shots back and forth in the second half, 17-13 in favor of the Owls with Frederick desperately trying to tie things up while the Owls searched for an additional goal for cushion as time ticked away. Both programs came close multiple times but couldn't find a way to capitalize as both goalkeepers continued to make saves. The Cougars came closest to scoring in the 76th minute when a free kick fired off the right post before the Owls managed to clear the ball. The Owls then later swung the attack into Cougars territory and added an insurance goal from Tesheira in the 89th minute to seal the win.
Freshman Jairo Caceres earned his first clean sheet of the year in the win, picking up 6 saves on the day.
Prince George's will be on the road for both of their games next week as they search for their first outside of their home field. Up first is Anne Arundel on Tuesday, September 10th at 7 PM in Arnold, MD.
