Men’s Basketball Bounces Back vs. Anne Arundel

Two days removed from their first loss of the season against a top 15 team in the national rankings, the Owls men's basketball team responded with a 34-point victory against Anne Arundel Community College in their Region 20 opener to get back into the win column.

Prince George's never trailed in Tuesday's contest against the Riverhawks, putting together their best shooting performance on the year as they connected on 57% (35/61) of their shots from the floor. The Owls found themselves leading by 18 (26-8) midway through the first half before Anne Arundel closed out the remainder on a 24-14 run to make it just an 8-point game at the break. Michael Osuji scored on a putback at the buzzer to give the team a bit of momentum heading into the locker room.

Prince George's was led by sophomore Jailin Landis' 12 points through the first twenty minutes of action. Tyler Donald was next in scoring for the Owls with 7 points and added 2 rebounds in 10 minutes off the bench.

Anne Arundel opened the second half on an 8-2 run to trim the Owls lead to just 2 before Prince George's quickly hit four straight layups while holding the Riverhawks without a basket to go back up by double digits once again. Anne Arundel came within 7 of Prince George's at one point in the remaining 15 minutes of action ahead of a 19-2 Owls run that lasted over five minutes to essentially put the game out of reach, 74-49 at the five-minute mark before closing out the 34-point win.

Landis and Donald finished as the Owls leading scorers with 23 and 14, respectively. Landis added 6 assists and 5 boards to his line for the night while Donald dished out 3 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds himself. Willie Rivera Jr. had 12 points and 6 assists on the evening to round out the top scorers.

The victory moves the Owls to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in their first Region 20 divisional game since elevating to division II after the culmination of last season. Prince George's is back on the road for their next game on Thursday at Navy's JV squad in Annapolis, MD.
