Owls Clinch Conference Title, #3 Seed in Region 20 Tournament with 96-74 Win Over Cecil

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team closed out the regular season in championship fashion Sunday afternoon, rolling past Cecil College, 96-74, to officially capture the 2025-26 MD JUCO Men's Basketball Regular Season Championship.

With the victory, the Owls not only secured the conference crown outright but also locked in the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region 20 Division II Tournament. Prince George's will host a quarterfinal matchup against Chesapeake College Tuesday night, giving the team a crucial home-court advantage at Novak Field House.

Sunday's victory marks the sixth overall men's basketball conference championship in program history. The Owls previously claimed conference titles in 1972, 1980, 1981, 2017, and 2023. Prior to the 2019-20 season, the conference champion was determined by an end-of-season tournament. Beginning in 2019-20, the format shifted to awarding the title based on regular season finish, making this year's championship the program's first under the regular-season-only format at the Division II level.

Five Owls reached double figures in Sunday's win. Sophomore Willie Rivera Jr. led the charge with 15 points, while Kadon Fossett and Isaiah Mansaray each added 13. Tyler Donald and Kelly Okoroh chipped in 12 points apiece as Prince George's controlled the tempo throughout the contest.

The win capped a strong regular season for the Owls, who finish 21-7 overall and 11-3 in MD JUCO play. Prince George's finished tied in conference record with Allegany College of Maryland and CCBC Dundalk, but earned the championship outright after previously defeating both programs head-to-head during the season.

The title marks the program's first conference championship since 2022-23, when the Owls won as a Division III program in head coach Harris's first year at the helm. That 2022-23 season remains the only time in conference history that a DIII program has captured the regular season conference title.

Over his four seasons leading the program, Harris has compiled a 37-19 conference record, good for a 69.6 winning percentage against Maryland two-year institutions. Harris has now guided the Owls to at least 20 wins in three of those years.

Prince George's now turns its attention to postseason play. The Owls will host No. 6 seed Chesapeake College on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the Region 20 Division II Tournament quarterfinals. Following Tuesday's games, the tournament shifts to Chesapeake College for the semifinal round on Friday, March 6, with the championship game set for Saturday, March 7.

A trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois awaits the Region 20/Mid-Atlantic District champion, as the Owls look to extend their championship run into March.
