opening pitch… Prince George's continues its 10-game homestand with its first Maryland JUCO conference game on Tuesday against CCBC Essex. The Knights swept the season series last year.
the word on knights… CCBC Essex comes into the contest 3-3 overall and 0-0 in Maryland JUCO after taking two of three against Surry Community College on Feb. 25-26. Mitch Fyffe leads the team with a .476 batting average, 10 hits, five runs scored, three doubles, a triple and eight RBIs. Corey Lewis is second on the squad with a .385 batting average, five hits, five runs scored and an RBI while JD Bruck is third with a .350 batting average, seven hits, a double and four RBIs.
last time out… Kilian Bloat knocked in three runs in the nightcap to propel Prince George's Community College past Bergen Community College 13-8 and earn a doubleheader split on Sunday. The Bulldogs won the opener, 7-3. Bloat went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored in the victory. The sophomore got the scoring started in the nightcap with a sacrifice fly in a seven-run first inning before adding an RBI single in the third and an RBI triple in the fifth and then scored the 13 run of the game on a wild pitch to cap the afternoon. He added a hit and a run scored in the opener. Ryan Faircloth posted four hits on the afternoon, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Owls while Dakota McFadden registered three hits, two RBIs and a run scored and Quentin Rohrbaugh added a two-run triple in the nightcap and a run scored on the day.
next on tap… Prince George's remains in Largo against CCBC Catonsville on Thursday, Garrett College (DH, Mar. 12) and Harford Community College (Mar. 14) all make their way to campus during this 10-game homestand.
the roster… Head coach Buddy Foster has added 11 freshman to his team in 2017 while returning 10 players from last year's team.
a loss to the owls family... Legendary Prince George's baseball coach William "Bumps" Vaughan passed away at the age of 90 on Feb. 25. In his long career as a head coach includes 21 years at the helm of the Owls from 1986-2005. The Owls will be wearing a special patch on their uniforms in honor of Vaughan and the athletic department will pay tribute to the legendary coach at an upcoming game.
about the coach… Head coach Buddy Foster enters his sixth season as the head coach of the baseball team. Foster has been at Prince George's since the 2009 campaign after serving as the squad's pitching coach for three seasons before being elevated to the head coach position. He guided the 2014 Owls to the NJCAA Region XX Division III title and advanced to the NJCAA Division III World Series.
