opening pitch… After playing six games in Virginia, Prince George's opens up its 2017 home slate with a three-game series against Orange County on Saturday and Sunday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and finish the series with a nine-inning affair on Sunday.(EDITOR's NOTE: Due to the weather, the teams will now play a single game on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.).
the word on the orange colts… Orange County will open its 2017 season with the three-game series at Prince George's County.
last time out… The Owls went 6-0 in their opening weekend in Danville, Va., with wins against UVAA (13-3, 15-0, 24-7), Central Virginia Community College (23-1) and the College of Faith (12-2, 6-5). Prince George's batted .528 (93-for-176) as a team with 18 doubles, five triples, five homers and 80 RBIs. Freshman Brandon Crosby led the way for the Owls with a .696 batting average (16-for-23) with 13 runs scored, three doubles and 17 RBIs. Fellow freshmen Dwayne Coleman and Harold Marte each belted two homers while sophomore Ryan Faircloth also went yard on the trip. Sophomore Dakota McFadden registered nine hits, nine runs scored and nine RBIs while freshman Bay To notched eight hits, seven runs scored, two doubles, two triples and seven RBIs on the weekend.
next on tap… Prince George's remains in Largo on Mar. 5 for a twinbill against Bergen Community College. After facing CCBC Essex on the road, CCBC Catonsville (Mar. 9) Garrett College (DH, Mar. 12) and Harford Community College (Mar. 14) all make their way to campus during this stretch of nine of the next 10 at home.
the roster… Head coach Buddy Foster has added 11 freshman to his team in 2017 while returning 10 players from last year's team.
about the coach… Head coach Buddy Foster enters his sixth season as the head coach of the baseball team. Foster has been at Prince George's since the 2009 campaign after serving as the squad's pitching coach for three seasons before being elevated to the head coach position. He guided the 2014 Owls to the NJCAA Region XX Division III title and advanced to the NJCAA Division III World Series.
